How — and why — to use the Phill Box®

At Parcel Health, we have a simple objective: to make sustainable packaging for prescription medication. Most of the plastic pill bottles that fill pharmacy shelves today cannot be recycled. So, even when you place the containers in a recycling bin, they usually end up in a landfill or incinerator.

To create an environmentally-conscious alternative, a complete redesign is required. Our answer? The Phill Box®. It’s easy to use and safe around children.

What is the Phill Box®?

The Phill Box® consists of an inner and outer box connected by a three-step lock.

Step 1: To release your medication, you press the sturdy inner box all the way up and into the outer box — it’s like a push-pop sucker.

Step 2: While the inner box remains pushed up, use your other hand to press and hold the button on the front face of the box, where you see the word “press.”

Step 3: While still holding in the “press” button, pull the inner box back down and out, and voilà! You can pour your medication through the dispensing hole in the upper corner of the box.

What makes the Phill Box® sustainable?

Not only can you recycle the Phill Box®, but it is also biodegradable. Plastic, by contrast, can take hundreds of years to break down fully. We make the Phill Box® from paperboard that has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as a sustainable material.

Is the Phill Box® as safe as standard pill bottles?

A signature feature of amber-colored pill bottles is their child-resistant lid. We are on the path to earning the same distinction. After rigorously testing our three-steep lock, we have submitted it for third-party child resistance testing.

To shield medication from exposure to water, grease, and light, we apply an all-natural coating to the surfaces of the Phill Box®.
